HOLLOWAY & CALEDONIAN ROAD

(1852 - 1915)

The first station north from Kings Cross, it suffered terminal competition from the Piccadilly line, whose Holloway Road
station opened next door to it.

Some trackside remains. The northernmost of the three bridges spanning Holloway Road has been removed; its gap can be seen here.

Apr 2005 - the entrance (the lighter coloured bricks) on the left hand side. The abutment for the missing bridge is to its right.
The arches along here were used to house a musicians rehearsal studio complex (and, as might be expected
from rooms built into arches, were damp and smelly).

The area was cleared in late 2006 as part of its redevelopment. Move your cursor over the image above to see the same view in Jan 2007.

The opposite side of Holloway Road showing the missing bridge abutment. The land on top of the viaduct is unused (except for the wildlife) so it is expected that this portion of viaduct will be demolished at some point as well.

The space for the third set of tracks continues as far as Hornsey Road where there is another missing section of bridge. Again though, the abutments survive.
